Project Title

Oil and hydrocarbon contamination on water surfaces is a major challenge in oil and gas, petrochemical, mining, and industrial wastewater applications. Effective removal of these contaminants helps reduce environmental impacts and prevents the spread of oily substances into water treatment processes. Mechanical skimmers are an effective solution for removing and separating oil layers from the surface of water and industrial wastewater.

In this project, a roller-type oil skimmer was designed and manufactured for the collection and separation of oil and hydrocarbon contaminants from water surfaces. The system operates through the rotation of a cylindrical roller that comes into contact with the contaminated surface, selectively capturing oil and separating it from the water.
To enhance separation performance, the roller surface was coated with hydrophobic and oleophilic polymers, providing a high affinity for oil and low affinity for water. This mechanism enables selective collection of oil contaminants and their transfer to the collection section. Following design and manufacturing, multiple units of the skimmer were produced and supplied to industrial customers.
